Jeevika - bee-keeping income generation project, IndiaThis project aims to improve the socio-economic status and quality of life for 200 women and their families in rural villages in South India as a result of income generated through sustainable honey production, improved family food intake and an improved awareness of health, hygiene and environmental issues. It will form Self-Help Groups and provide each with the knowledge, skills and equipment required to enable them to generate income through honey production. By the end of the first year the women will self-manage their beekeeping collective through the establishment of bank accounts, savings and marketing. The foundations of a small beekeeping industry will be established and it will be prepared for a second year of beekeeping which will generate income while enabling women to contribute to household income, local decision-making and to the environmental sustainability of their agro-forestry commune. |
