Oxfam Afghanistan Schools project
Several years since the fall of the Taliban, Afghanistan remains one of the poorest and least-developed nations in the world - average life expectancy is just 43 and one in five children die before their fifth birthday. More than 50% of children, mostly girls, do not attend school due to lack of female teachers and harsh winters that make travelling to school impossible in rural areas.'
This project, run by Oxfam, aims to improve access to education in remote villages, focusing on girls. It aims to:
- Provide more female teachers.
- Improve literacy amongst village women.
- Establish local winter schools.
The goal is to reach 1,000 children and 750 women in 25 villages over
3 years.
