Vanam

Vanam Jyothi is 26 and lives with her husband and children in the village of Vellanki, in the Ramannapet Mandel Nalgonda District. She is part of the Oxfam Cotton Farmers Project in South India, supported by the Trust, and tells us:

'By becoming a member of this group, we have immediately received an increase in our income. Before, we would only get 150 rupees for a stole- now we get 250 rupees. We are now producing quality goods and we understand the methods we need to follow in order to produce quality goods. We have 2 children (9 and 5 years old) and they are now able to go to a school in Vellanki... once we get more established, we would like to start sending them to the nearby town for their education. We are also able to put regular savings through into the group, which is used to help other members in times of need such as for school fees and medical bills...'
